The Rashtriya military schools in India were started in 1925 with establishment of Chail Military School (King George Royal Indian Military College) and later on Ajmer, Bangalore, Belgaum and Dholpur were started by Government of India. No other military school is authorized to be named as a Rashtriya Military School.
Students aged between 10-11 appear in CET for all military schools, followed by interview and medical examinations to join the school according to merit list (the success rate is approximately 1% of the total applicant).
Admission to class IX is through a Common Entrance Test, which is conducted by the Rashtriya Military School.

Entrance Examination: Admission to the School is open to Girls from all states. However Karnataka Native / Karnataka Domicile Girls for Five years or more while applying for admission are only eligible for the Government of Karnataka Merit Scholarship. Only one chance will be allowed to any candidate for taking the entrance examination for admission to class VI. Only those Girls who have completed 10 years and are below 12 years of age as on 1st June of the year of the admission and having passed Standard V th at the time of admission are eligible. Medium of examination will be in English / Kannada.
